Chalkidiki

Chalkidiki … the "secret paradise of Greece ” is recognized at first sight on the map for everyone: three peninsulas in the northern Aegean Sea – CASSANDRA, SITHONIA, ATHOS, like the trident of Poseidon’s, the sea Gods. The rocks have already made Chalkidiki famous in the Ancient Age: the shelving coast of Athos smashed a Persian fleet, saving Greece.
Today it counts with more than an unusual geography. It has an unique record, there is no place in Greece with so many beaches so close together. All together Chalkidiki registers 522 kilometers of coast – near the international airport of Thessaloniki, which represents the main reason for the fact that the peninsula has become so attractive for tourists.
However, Chalkidiki has not only sun, beach and excellent hotels to offer. A visit to this region will be unforgettable, if you get know the way of life of the locals. And that’s quite easy to do in Chalkidiki: one only needs to attend one of the local parties or go to one of the small taverns and enjoy the numerous culinary specialities.
The holidays begin on the western peninsula of Cassandra, on which coasts Beach’s Resort and Hotels of all categories line up. Further East lies Sithonia peninsula – not so easily accessible by tourists as Cassandra – but for that same reason so unique. Here the numerous pine trees invite us to trek, the turquoise sea and the long sandy beaches reminds the Caribbean. The most eastern of the 3 peninsulas is Athos, with a mountain with the same name. The 2033 meter high Athos mountain has been a world landmark for over than 1000 years: an autonomous, remote and isolated territory of the Athos monks, where women are not allowed and man visitors are only exceptionally admitted. Therefore, some ships cruise along the coast allowing their clients to admire the unique architecture and history of the Monastery.
